Shawn is the Director of Enterprise Architecture for Duke Energy. He is responsible for Enterprise Architecture, IT Strategy, Planning, and Architecture Governance at Duke.  Shawn has led efforts to introduce Analytics, Mobile Apps, SOA and Grid technologies at Duke Energy. 

Prior to the merger, Shawn led a similar function at Progress Energy where he helped develop the EA program.  He and his team played the role of chief architects of Progress’ Smart Grid efforts. Prior to that Shawn led the rollout of IT Planning, Service Oriented Architecture and Software Development Lifecycle (CMMI Level 3).  Shawn has also served in various Application Development management roles at Progress.   

Before coming to Progress Energy, Shawn held other leadership roles at Ciena and ONI Systems where he was responsible for the data center and operational support at the RTP Lab.  Previously, Shawn served as a software consultant with Texas Instruments leading and assisting customers implement business applications in the Biomedical, Energy and Manufacturing industries.  

Shawn began his career in 1988 at Nortel as a programmer and project manager. 
Shawn graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science.   

He is a board member of the Apex Cougar Booster Club, Coach Daniels 5K Scholarship Run and a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. 

A native of Greensboro, NC, He was born in 1965.  Shawn and his wife, Diana, have two daughters and one son and reside in Apex, NC.  Samantha(pictured) is a Junior at NC State Design School majoring in Architecture.
